Derecha del Castillo is a surf spot located in Gran Canaria, right next to an old fortress that was built centuries ago for the island's defense. It’s a nice place to catch some waves, but be ready for some company, as it can get pretty crowded. The scenery is quite impressive, with the castle providing a historical backdrop for your surfing experience.

This spot offers a fun right-hander that works best with east swell conditions. It usually peels down over a boulder-strewn reef, and you can expect it to hold around 2 feet (approximately 0.6 meters) up to some decent sizes. The best wave direction is to your right, and it’s particularly suitable for beginner surfers. For optimal conditions, look for winds coming from the west and aim for mid tide. You’ll often find waves here during northeast and east swells.

While the waves can be enjoyable, be aware that the spot can get busy. There are also a couple of lefts nearby to mix things up if you want a change of pace. Just keep an eye on the crowd to enjoy your time in the water.
