Overview
Doolin Point is a right-hand point that peels over an uneven limestone reef. On its day it turns on a long, fast wall with barrelling sections, and it earns a good rating when all the pieces come together.
When It Works
The point draws swell from the southwest through northwest (SW-NW), with west (W) the best direction. It's usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft. Winter is the season, and with only moderate consistency you'll be waiting for the right window rather than scoring it on demand.
Wind and Tide
It's cleanest on an east (E) offshore wind; anything short of properly offshore and the wall breaks up into peaky, sectiony surf. Tide-wise it works from low to mid, with a rising tide the better call.
Local Tips
This is an intermediate wave, and a shortboard is the right tool for those fast walls and barrels. Tricky access and the uncompromising reef keep numbers down, so the lineup stays quiet and low-key. Mind the sharp limestone bottom underneath.
Access
It's a short walk from the car park, which has free parking and shares its lot with Crab. Camping is available too.
