Dumbéa Right is a right-hand reef break that peels over live coral. It serves up long, predictable walls marching along the reef edge, giving you plenty of room to link turn after turn.
When It Works
The break draws swell from south through west-southwest to northwest (S-WSW-NW), and it comes alive when there is some west in the swell, with west (W) the best match to line those walls up. In the 3-6 ft (1-2 m) range it is all about turns. As the swell pushes overhead the lips throw with it and the wave turns into a faster, more tube-oriented ride. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft and tends to be moderately consistent.
Wind and Tide
Look for a north (N) offshore wind. The reef can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call, and any north wind should be fine as long as the tide is pushing in.
Local Tips
Dumbéa Right suits intermediate surfers. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it is on, though it is always quieter than the left.
