Ténia surf guide

Ténia is a surf spot located near Tenia Island, which you can reach with a half-hour boat trip from Bourake. It's a decent place to camp if you're looking for some island vibes while surfing. The main wave here is a left that breaks off the Passe de St Vincent. It's not the most powerful wave out there, but it offers long carving faces and crumbling lips that can be fun for those who love to ride in the afternoon when the trades kick in.

The wave works best with a SouthWest swell and is also decent with SouthEast swells, handling sizes from around 2ft (0.6m) and up. While the left can pack a punch as it shifts around the long line-up, it's suitable for intermediates, especially on average days. You can expect it to break over live coral, and it can handle various tide heights, making it flexible for different surf conditions. The best wind direction is from the East, and it works well at low, mid, or high tide.

Besides the left, there are other spots on the reef that offer both left and right options, giving you some variety if you're keen to explore. Just be mindful of the strong currents, especially during dropping tides, so make sure you’re prepared.
