El Roque surf guide

El Roque is a surf spot that caters mostly to beginners, located in a laid-back area. It’s known for its left-breaking waves that form nicely behind a big rock, making it a fun hangout for newer surfers looking to practice their skills. The vibe here can get a bit crowded at times, but it’s generally a chill place to catch some waves.

This spot works best with a north swell direction and handles swell sizes up to about 3 feet (0.9 meters). You're in for mellow waves that break over boulders and sand, which is friendly for those still getting comfortable on their boards. The take-offs are easy, and the walls are perfect for practicing cutbacks. For ideal conditions, a south wind and mid tide are preferred, giving you the best chance to enjoy the surf.

While the waves are suitable for beginners, it's good to know that inconsistency can happen here; sometimes you might find it a bit flat, so keep that in mind when planning your sessions. Be aware that there’s some rubbish along the shore and rocks, which can detract from the natural beauty but shouldn’t impact your time in the water too much.
