Overview
Esterillos Oeste is a south-facing beach break spread along a long sandy stretch, with a few lava reefs sitting outside and a slow righthander known as La Sirena. It's an easygoing, beginner-friendly setup.
When It Works
The waves break over sand and peel both left and right. It draws swell from northwest through north to southeast, but a south swell is the best match. It works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, and being moderately consistent, you'll find rideable days here without every session being a sure thing.
Wind and Tide
Look for a north offshore wind. The break comes to life on low and mid tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a friendly wave for beginners, and the lineup tends to stay fairly quiet. If you're after something with more punch, head further east to Esterillos Centro and Este, which pick up emptier, hollower waves and have plenty of places to stay.
Access
There's camping close by, along with free roadside parking.
