Overview
Faja da Ovelha is a right-hand point that breaks over boulders, and it remains one of the rarest finds around: the wave has been seen but never ridden. Hidden from view of any town and reachable only by boat, it is reported to be a heavy wave that is not for the faint of heart.
When It Works
The point draws swell from west through north, with northwest (NW) swell the best match. It works from 2.4 m / 8 ft to 6.1 m / 20 ft, a serious size range that says a lot about the kind of wave this is. It is somewhat inconsistent, so even in season you may need patience before it lines up.
Wind and Tide
Look for northeast (NE) offshore wind. The point can break through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is strictly expert territory: a heavy, unridden right over boulders is no place to find your feet. The upside of all that remoteness is a quiet lineup, so if you ever get out there on the right day, you will not be fighting for waves.
Access
The only way in is by boat, as the spot cannot be reached from land or seen from any town. Try hiring one in Paul do Mar or Calheta.
