You can find nice lefts on the north end and rights off the rocks at the south end. The waves tend to pack a punch, making it suitable even for beginner surfers. It typically handles swells from around 2 feet (0.6 meters) and can work well at low, mid, and high tides, with the ideal wind direction being from the Northwest. If the waves are flat at Ferrugem, there’s a good chance it’s flat everywhere else too. Crowds can be quite heavy, especially at the best peaks, so consider exploring other options, like around the corner at Praia da Barra. Just keep in mind that river runoff can be a concern there, which might detract from the experience.
