Overview
Frejulfe is a top-quality beachbreak tucked inside a nature reserve, with a pine forest backdrop and both lefts and rights breaking over sand. It is a consistent wave that offers something at either end of the beach, from the rivermouth peaks in the east to the rocky stretch at the western end.
When It Works
The beach picks up swell from west to north, with northwest the best match, and works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft. Thanks to its consistency, it delivers surfable waves more often than not when the swell sits in that range.
Wind and Tide
Look for a south wind, which blows offshore here. Frejulfe works on low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call. The tide also decides where to surf: low tide favors the rivermouth at the eastern end, while the rocky western end comes to life from incoming to high.
Local Tips
This is a wave for expert surfers, and crowds are rarely an issue. Water quality is usually fine, though there is a slight chance of estuarine pollution drifting over from Navia.
Access
Park for free at the top of the hill above the beach. Facilities include a lifeguard and showers.
