Galley Bay is the most consistent spot on the north side, a left-hander that breaks over live coral reef. The outside lefts look tempting but sit stupidly shallow, breaking fast and hollow over staghorn coral, and the beach can throw close-out shoredumpers at times. It suits surfers who are fast to their feet and comfortable with coral flying close under-fin.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from northwest through northeast, with north swell the best match. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, and it holds together moderately often, so you will find rideable windows without every session lining up.
Wind and Tide
Look for a southeast offshore wind to clean it up. It can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This one is best for intermediate surfers who can commit over shallow coral. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it turns on.
