Garagolo is a right-hander that breaks over uneven reef right in the centre of the little town of Rosignano, about 20 km south of Livorno. It is a newly formed spot, sucking off a shallow rock bottom, and it is firmly an expert-level wave rather than anything a beginner should take on. Worth knowing before you go: the water here is polluted.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from southwest to west (SW-W), and it lines up best on a southwest (SW) swell. It is usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft, so you want some real size in the water before it comes to life, and the uneven reef shapes the right as it breaks.
Wind and Tide
Look for a southwest (SW) offshore wind to clean it up. It can work across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a wave for confident, experienced surfers only. The lineup stays quiet, so you are unlikely to be fighting for waves when it turns on.
Access
Parking is easy enough, with a mix of free, metered, and roadside options close to the break in town.
