Geriba is Buzios' most consistent beachbreak, a sand-bottom peak that throws up nice, sometimes hollow sections with plenty of wall to work along. It sits on the edge of Buzios, a ritzy seaside resort of smart villas and friendly pousadas, the same coast where hippies once escaped the military dictatorship back in the '70s.
When It Works
Geriba draws swell from east through south (E-S), with southeast (SE) swell the best match. It breaks both left and right over sand and stays consistent, so there is usually something to ride. The break works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft.
Wind and Tide
Look for northwest (NW) offshore wind, with a workable window running from northwest around to northeast. It can work through low, mid, and high tide, though a rising tide is generally the better call.
Local Tips
The waves are forgiving enough for beginners. Expect a busy lineup when it is on, and it gets super-crowded on weekends. If you want more room, heading south to Tucuns or Dunas de Pero usually means a mellower wave and a quieter line-up.
Access
You will find restrooms, showers, camping, a lifeguard, a surf school, and a surf shop here. Parking comes in a few forms: a car park with free parking, paid parking, and roadside spaces.
