Overview
Gonubie Reef is a long, consistent left pointbreak that peels over a rock ledge, a real rarity along this stretch of coast. When it's on, it serves up long, playful walls that hold their shape across just about any swell.
When It Works
The reef pulls in swell from southwest through north to northeast (SW-N-NE), with southeast (SE) the optimal direction. It's usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 3 m / 10 ft and will run on pretty much any swell direction or size, though medium swells can turn tricky at times. As a consistent break, it shows up more often than most spots around here.
Wind and Tide
Look for northwest (NW) offshore wind. The reef can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers. Expect a busy lineup when it's working, and keep an eye out for boats moving through the channel and rivermouth.
