Overview
Gouaro is a right-hand reef break that peels over live coral, and it's a fun, consistent wave that feels noticeably less threatening than the outer reef setups nearby. When the swell fills in, the inside of the Bourail Pass opens up more choices, with a left and another right that come into play on bigger days.
When It Works
Gouaro pulls in swell from southeast through south to west, and because it handles most swell directions it stays moderately consistent. The working range runs from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 3 m / 10 ft.
Wind and Tide
Look for northwest offshore wind. The reef favours mid and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
Gouaro suits intermediate surfers. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's on, and it can draw a weekend crowd as locals join the Nekweta Surf Camp visitors from just across the bay.
Access
The break sits directly across the Baie des Tortues, but the 2 km paddle across isn't worth attempting, especially with the rivermouth attracting sharks.
