Graveyards is a right-hand point that peels over a rock ledge near Cintsa on South Africa's East Cape. It really only comes to life when a southwest swell wraps into the point, so it rewards patience more than most spots in the area. When that setup lands, it's a fun, manageable wave for intermediate surfers.
When It Works
The point draws swell from southwest through southeast (SW-SE), and it's at its best on a southwest (SW) swell wrapping in. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, so there's a decent window between too small and too big to hold shape. Consistency is moderate, meaning you'll want to time your paddle-outs to when the swell direction lines up rather than expecting it to be on every day.
If Graveyards isn't cooperating, the nearby Cintsa East beachbreak can hold some banks in late summer once the sand builds up.
Wind and Tide
Look for a west (W) offshore wind to clean it up, which pairs naturally with the southwest swell it prefers. The point breaks across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an intermediate-friendly right, and the lineup tends to stay fairly quiet, so you can usually find room to surf without much of a crowd.
