Overview
Graveyards is a left-hand reef break in Mauritius, named for the cemetery it faces across the water. It's rarely on song, but it's usually rideable, peeling left over a shallow bed of live coral. This is an experts-only reef pass, with all the usual reef hazards plus some localism to factor in.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from southwest through southeast (SW-SE), with south (S) swell the best match. It works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft and tends to be moderately consistent. Reaching the takeoff means a long paddle-out, so factor that into your session.
Wind and Tide
The spot needs north (N) offshore wind to come together. It favours a rising tide and works best at high tide.
Local Tips
Keep this one for expert surfers only, given the serious coral, the long paddle, and the demanding takeoff. The lineup usually stays fairly quiet.
Access
There's free roadside parking near the spot.
