Overview
Haga-Haga is a left-hand reef that peels over a rock ledge. The wave suits confident intermediate surfers, and the reef in front of it is where you want to focus your attention. The left reef and point directly in front of the hotel, along with the nearby beachbreak, rarely come good, so it pays to know which setup you're actually looking at.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from southwest through southeast (SW-SE), with southeast swell the best match for lining up clean lefts. It's usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, so there's a decent working window from small-to-solid days. Consistency is moderate, meaning you'll get worthwhile sessions here without it firing every time you check.
Wind and Tide
Look for a northwest offshore wind to clean up the reef. It can work through most of the tide, across low, mid, and high, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an intermediate-level wave, and the lineup tends to stay fairly quiet when it's on. If you're chasing rights instead, head up the coast and check Double Mouth.
