Ikei is a live-coral reef on Ikei Island that peels both left and right. The reefs facing the Big Time Hotel enjoy a wide swell window and are fun at head-high, an easy call if you'd rather not brave the roads to get here. When the swell picks up, the west side of the island turns on with Sunset Beach-like rights.
When It Works
One of the most consistent breaks on the island, Ikei draws swell from northeast through east-southeast to south (NE-ESE-S), with southeast (SE) the best match. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft. During rare east typhoon swells, nearby Tengan Pier fires as well.
Wind and Tide
Look for northwest (NW) offshore wind. Ikei works on mid and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
The reef suits intermediate surfers, and you can expect a busy lineup when it's working. Over on the bigger west-side rights, take care with the sea urchins and strong currents.
Access
There are restrooms and showers on hand, along with plenty of parking: a car park with free parking, paid parking, and roadside spots. The Big Time Hotel sits right in front of the reefs if you want to stay close and wait for the right conditions.
