Overview
Il Molo is a long, slow right-hand point that peels off a jetty on the north side of Portonovo bay. It breaks over a mix of uneven reef and sand, and the mellow, drawn-out wall makes it a friendly option for beginners finding their feet on a point.
When It Works
The point needs north, northeast, or east swell to get going, drawing from north to east (N-E) overall, with northeast (NE) the direction that lines it up best. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft. If you want a bit more punch under the same conditions, faster peaks break further down the beach in front of the Trocadero beach bar.
Wind and Tide
Look for northeast (NE) offshore wind, and note that the point really only fires when there is strong northeast or east wind pushing it along. It can work across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
The wave suits beginners, and the easiest way in is to jump straight off the pier. Expect a busy lineup through summer.
