Imsouane (The Bay) is a long, mellow right-hand point breaking over sand and rock, and arguably the longest wave in Morocco. It is the prototypical beginner and surf school spot in the country, but the ride is still a blast on a log or a fish if you are more experienced. Around the corner on the "Cathedral" side you will find left and right reefs, beachbreaks and more points. The water is beautiful and relatively clean.
When It Works
The point draws swell from southwest to north, and it is usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3 m / 10 ft, running anywhere from knee-high to overhead. Autumn and winter bring the most consistent swells, and the wave holds up as a decent, dependable point when it is on.
Wind and Tide
Look for north-northeast offshore wind, with a workable wind window from north-northeast to northeast. It surfs on low to mid tide, and a rising tide is generally the better call.
Local Tips
Beginners and intermediates get the most out of this one, and it suits a fish, funboard or longboard. Expect a busy lineup with plenty of visiting surfers and surf schoolers, so try to get there before the schools do. The local scene is well developed and the atmosphere in the water is easygoing. The paddle out is mellow. Watch for rocks and for the crowd itself.
Access
Follow the road along the cliff from the small town down to the bay. Access is obvious.
