Isla Montuosa is a remote right-hander that hugs the rocky western shoreline of a jungle-cloaked island far offshore, just west of the Hannibal Bank. Sitting out in open ocean, it hoovers up swell from far away and peels into long, powerful walls in near-total isolation. This one is for proper surfers who aren't fazed by taking on serious waves in the middle of nowhere.
When It Works
The right breaks over an uneven reef and draws swell from south through west, with a southwest (SW) swell the best match. It's usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 4.6 m / 15 ft, holding its shape all the way up to as big as it gets. Consistency is good, so when a swell is running the wave tends to show up.
Wind and Tide
Look for northeast (NE) offshore wind to groom the face. The reef can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is expert-only terrain, a serious wave that demands confidence given the reef and the sheer remoteness of the setup. The trade-off for being this far out is a quiet lineup, so you're unlikely to be sharing it with anyone.
