Kanehama is a reliable winter beachbreak that breaks over sand and peels both left and right. Even when there isn't much swell on the Pacific coast, it has enough power to serve up fun waves on small days, and it packs a real punch once it reaches head high.
When It Works
Kanehama draws swell from northeast to southeast (NE-SE), with southeast (SE) the best match. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft and stays fairly consistent through the season. A good rip channel usually runs at the north end, which helps with getting out the back.
Wind and Tide
Look for west (W) offshore wind to clean it up. It can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
The mellow, forgiving beachbreak makes Kanehama a good option for beginners. Expect a busy lineup when it's working.
