Kottey is the furthest-west spot here, a set of reefbreaks that comes alive during the southwest monsoon. It fronts a garbage dump beside a muddy lagoon, so the setting is far from pretty, but the reef itself throws up an interesting run of waves. It can get big, with swell wedging up over mainly dead coral into heavy, rippy conditions.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from south through west-southwest to northwest (S-WSW-NW), and southwest swell is the best match. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft and breaks both left and right over the dead coral reef.
Wind and Tide
Look for south offshore wind. The reef can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a heavy wave when it's on, and there's no safe channel to paddle out, so pick your moment carefully. Just to the north, Demon Point can hide clean, near-perfect small peaks, with room for only two or three surfers.
