La Boya surf guide

La Boya is a well-known surf spot located on the coast, recognized for its unique wave setup and challenging conditions. It's out on the point, where surfers gather for a shot at riding some of the most interesting waves around. Although it can be busy, it attracts a dedicated crowd, especially when the conditions are right.

The main draw here is the left-hand point break that works best with a southeast swell. To really enjoy it, youโ€™re looking at about 5ft (1.5m) to get things going. When the swell is pumping, you can expect fast, hollow waves that break over a combination of rock ledges and sand, making wave selection crucial. The rides can be a bit unpredictable due to various sections of the wave, so it's definitely more suitable for experienced surfers. If you prefer rights, you can find those peeling into Playa Montoya, but be mindful that it can be more exposed to the wind.

La Boya handles northeast winds pretty well, which can help keep the wave shape clean. It's solid during low, mid, and high tides, but remember that this spot is really for experts only due to the rock ledges and the nature of the waves. If you're up for the challenge and conditions are right, La Boya can provide some exciting rides.
