La Courance is a sand-bottomed beach break that peels both left and right. Consistent but small shorebreaks make this little beach a favourite with bodyboarders and skimboarders, and a tidier peak can form up by the point. It is mostly sand with a few scattered rocks around.
When It Works
The beach draws swell from southwest to northwest (SW-NW), with a southwest (SW) swell the best match. It is usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, so there is plenty of working room across the range. Consistency is moderate, so you will find rideable waves fairly often without it being on every day.
Wind and Tide
Look for a north (N) offshore wind to clean things up. The beach works on low and mid tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a good spot for intermediate surfers. Expect a busy lineup when it works. At high tide, it is worth checking the soft righthanders of Grand Traict just to the north.
Access
Follow the signs to Sainte Marguerite to find the beach. There are restrooms, showers, a lifeguard, a surf school, and camping nearby, along with a car park with free parking.
