Overview
La Fitenia is a flat section of uneven, rocky reef just south of the main Las Americas breaks, where the coastline turns the corner. It offers both lefts and rights and has a real range of moods, from small cutback shoulders to big bowls and racy walls, with the rights usually the better option. When small it stays mellow, with fun waves and a surf school operating in the water, but in the right conditions a big peak appears, producing long, wrapping walls on both sides. Overall wave quality sits below average, yet the spot gets genuinely good when that main peak wakes up. Water quality is generally OK, though there are reports of sewage discharges here through aging infrastructure.
When It Works
The reef needs swell with some south in it. It draws swell from southwest to southeast (SW-SE), with south (S) the best match, and works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3 m / 10 ft. It can be inconsistent, and because it is often the only wave working in certain conditions, a crowd tends to gather when it does break. Autumn and winter are the seasons to watch, with October to March the best window.
Wind and Tide
Look for a north wind for offshore conditions. The reef works on all tides, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a spot for intermediate surfers and up, and it suits a wide spread of boards: shortboards, funboards, fish, longboards, SUPs, and bodyboards all get ridden here. Expect a moderately busy lineup with a somewhat reserved atmosphere. The vibe is chilled when it is small but turns competitive when the waves get good, so follow etiquette in the water. Once you are paddling out it is easy going, but watch for rocks on the inside.
Access
There is parking right by the break, with a free car park plus roadside parking, and a surf shop. The walk out is tricky over sharp rocks, so take care getting in.
