Overview
La Salvaje is a very consistent, good-quality beachbreak with two semi-permanent peaks breaking over sand. It leans toward lefthanders, though both lefts and rights are on offer.
When It Works
The peaks pull in swell from west to north (W-N), and northwest (NW) is the direction to look for. It works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, handling small to medium swells. Consistency is a real strength here, so it rarely goes flat when there is swell in the water.
Wind and Tide
Look for south (S) offshore wind. The beachbreak comes to life on mid and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers, but the lineup is always crowded and highly competitive, so expect to work for your waves. Strong rips run through here, so keep an eye on your position in the water.
Access
Parking is a paid car park, metered and restricted in summer but more relaxed in winter, when camper vans can pull in too. Beach facilities are good, with showers, a lifeguard, and a surf school, plus surfshops and camping nearby. Water quality can suffer from estuarine and stormwater pollution, especially after heavy rains.
