Overview
Lakey Peak is a reef break with short lefts and rights, around 30 to 40 metres long, that peel off a central peak into channels on either side. The waves break over dead coral.
When It Works
The peak draws swell from south to southwest, with southwest (SW) the best direction. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3 m / 10 ft, and while it can hold bigger, juicy waves, the best time to surf it is when it sits in that perfect head-high-plus range.
Wind and Tide
Look for east (E) offshore wind. It works through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call. The right often throws up backdoor tube rides but gets too shallow at low tide, which is when the left keeps churning out predictable, ideal-speed barrels.
Local Tips
Mid-tide sessions are the pick for intermediates, and the flattish reef stays fairly user-friendly, except during full or new moon phases.
Access
Getting out to the peak is easy: it is a short 450 m paddle, or you can take the zodiac for around $2 return.
