Overview
Le Morne Rights is a consistent right-hand reef that peels over live coral off Mauritius's southwest corner. When the swell is small and clean, or the wind swings out of the northeast, it can be ridden out on the north side of Passe de la Prairie. Across the channel sits the Manawa left, and both waves run long and hollow, though reaching Manawa takes slack wind, an incoming tide, and a boat.
When It Works
The reef pulls in swell from southwest through southeast, with southwest the optimal direction. It's usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 3 m / 10 ft, and it breaks reliably, so there's a decent window whenever a swell lines up.
Wind and Tide
Look for a northeast offshore wind to groom the face. The reef comes to life on mid and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an expert-level wave that demands respect. The biggest hazard is the severe outgoing current on the drop, so pick your moment and be confident before committing. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's on.
