Le Pin Sec is a quiet beach break just north of Hourtin, where a single road cuts through the 10km Forêt du Flamand. Cross the dunes and you'll find an endless choice of sand-bottomed peaks spread along a stretch of coast that rarely draws a crowd.
When It Works
The peaks here are consistent and break both left and right. It picks up swell from southwest to northwest (SW-NW), with northwest (NW) the direction that lines it up best. It works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, giving you a wide window of size to find it in shape.
Wind and Tide
Look for an east (E) offshore wind to clean up the peaks. It breaks through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
Le Pin Sec suits intermediate surfers, and while the beach is approachable, keep an eye out for rips. Expect a fairly quiet lineup even when the sandbanks are firing.
Access
Cross the dunes to reach the peaks. There's a car park with free parking alongside roadside spots, and a campsite close by.
