Le Truc Vert is the best-known spot on the Cap-Ferret peninsula, largely thanks to the big campground that shares its name and the dependable sandbanks shaped by the nearby jetty. It is a sand-bottom beach break that peels both left and right, and it earns its reputation by holding good shape more often than most.
When It Works
The banks pick up swell from anywhere between the southwest and northwest, and they come alive best on a west (W) swell lining straight into the peninsula. It is a consistent spot, so you will usually find something to ride here when other breaks go flat. It works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 3 m / 10 ft, giving you plenty of range from small, playful days up to solid, powerful surf.
Wind and Tide
Look for east (E) offshore wind to clean up the faces. The banks work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
The waves suit intermediate surfers comfortably. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it is on, and count on summer crowds gathering right in front of the car park. Be ready for strong currents and drift, so keep an eye on your position and give yourself room to move along the beach.
Access
There is plenty on hand here, with restrooms, showers, a surf school, and the camping ground right by the sand. Parking is easy too, with a car park offering free parking.
