Lighthouse is a right-hand reef on the north coast of Pagai Selatan, breaking over live coral. It only comes alive when a big swell wrap reaches the coast, and when it does the energy coils around the island in pointbreak fashion, throwing fast down-the-line walls. Push the size up toward 10 ft and over and those walls stack into heaving power pockets.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from south to southwest, with south swell the best match, since only a big wrap can bend that energy onto this north-facing setup. It works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 4.6 m / 15 ft, and the upper end of that range is where the wave really shows its power.
Wind and Tide
Look for west offshore wind. The reef sits on the same orientation as Lances Right, so a westerly quadrant is what grooms it cleanly. It breaks across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This wave suits intermediate surfers. Climb the 46 ft lighthouse for a unique photo angle over the lineup. There is also a left on the other side of the island, but it is nowhere near as good as the right.
