Maluan Bay is a small, secluded bay on Dongshan Island, with a beach break that peels over sand. Several peaks form across the bay, but the best waves shape up off the rocky outcrop in the middle. It's a modest spot, smaller than the beaches to the south.
When It Works
The bay shows its best potential during summer swells out of the east, southeast and south. It draws swell from east to south (E-S), with southeast (SE) the best match, and the waves peel both left and right. It's usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft. Don't count on it every session, though, as the bay is somewhat inconsistent.
Wind and Tide
Look for northwest (NW) offshore wind to clean things up. The bay can work through low, mid and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a friendly, forgiving spot for beginners, and the lineup tends to stay quiet.
