Overview
Milnerton is a west-facing stretch of average beachbreak that breaks over sand, with peaks scattered up and down the beach from the lighthouse. It's a laid-back spot with lovely vistas of town and Table Mountain.
When It Works
The beach draws swell from northwest through north to southeast (NW-N-SE), and southwest (SW) swell is the best match. It works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, and tends to close out once the swell pushes much overhead. Both lefts and rights peel along the sandbanks, and it's moderately consistent, so there are reliable windows when the setup lines up.
Wind and Tide
Look for an offshore east wind to clean up the peaks. It surfs best on mid and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call, and tends to close out down at low tide.
Local Tips
Milnerton is a friendly option for beginners, and the peaks spreading out from the lighthouse help thin out what is usually a moderately busy lineup.
