Moçambique Surf Forecast Guide

Moçambique is the longest beach on the island, a sandy beachbreak that peels both left and right across a long line of peaks. With so much coastline to work with, there's rarely just one option on offer.

When It Works

The beach draws swell from east to south (E-S), with a southeast (SE) swell the best match, and it's a consistent performer. It works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft. On smaller swells and light wind days you'll find an endless selection of peaks, and they get hollow on the lower tides. The north end is usually best on east-southeast swells, serving up fast, walled-up waves at Ponta das Aranhas.

Wind and Tide

Look for northwest (NW) offshore wind. It can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.

Local Tips

This is a friendly beginner beach, and you can expect a moderately busy lineup when it's on. Cruisers will find the south end at Barra da Lagoa less boisterous, with easy, empty peaks in front of the campground. If a peak looks crowded, walk or drive to the next one, which can be empty even on weekends.

Access

Twelve access points run off a dirt road behind the sand, making it easy to spread out along the beach. You'll find a car park with free parking plus roadside parking, and there's a surf school on hand.
