Mossies is a surf spot that offers a mellow offshore reef peak, making it a decent choice for surfers looking for a laid-back session. The name comes from the farmer who first spotted surfers riding the waves here. To get to the surf, you can launch from Garywilliam Point, but be aware that it involves a long paddle from the beach.
This spot works best with a north swell direction, but it can also handle south-west and north-west swells. It’s ideal for smaller swells, particularly around 3ft (about 0.9 meters). The waves break over an uneven reef, producing fun left and right waves. If you're planning your session, keep in mind that south-east winds are preferable, and low to mid tides work best for the surf.
Mossies is beginner-friendly, so it’s a solid option for those just getting into surfing. Just remember to keep it friendly out there – leave any competitive vibes at home and enjoy the waves!
