Overview
Nu'usafee Island, also known as Devils Island, is a left-hander that breaks over live coral off Samoa. It reels through three sections, and the exposed first section is where it gets serious. Speed and confident barrel riding are essential there, and a fall onto the shallow coral is a real possibility. The middle and end sections rarely link up, but the curve of the reef helps make the barrels a bit more manageable.
When It Works
A genuine swell-magnet, Nu'usafee is consistent and makes the most of small swells. It draws swell from southwest through southeast, with southwest the best match, and works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 4.6 m / 15 ft. It fires on smaller days, though some reckon it's better with a little more size, so the three sections start to pull off the reef.
Wind and Tide
Look for northeast offshore wind. It breaks on mid and high tide, and a rising tide is the better call, with higher water generally improving it.
Local Tips
This is an expert-only wave, given the shallow live coral and the demands of that first section. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's working.
