Old Mans is located at the southern edge of the Canggu stretch and is quite popular among longboarders and SUP riders. The spot features a mix of lava reef and sand, making it a unique place to catch some waves. The parking is easy, but surfers should keep in mind that the black sand can get pretty hot for bare feet.
The surf here is generally friendly, with waves that can reach up to head high (about 2.5 meters) and typically break to the right and left. The best swell direction is from the southwest, but it can also handle swells coming from the south and west. Most days, you’ll find the waves are a bit fat, especially on low tide when they can get messy. However, it can still handle some decent sets, which will feather out nicely. The optimal conditions occur with a northeast wind and the tide can be good at low, mid, and high, making it pretty versatile for all skill levels, including beginners.
When you’re out there, be aware that the uneven reef can create some fun lefts and rights but can be a little tricky to navigate at times. Overall, Old Mans offers a laid-back vibe, perfect for those looking to enjoy a session without too much hassle.
