Pantai Panjang, which translates as Long Beach, is the most consistent break in Bengkulu province. This urban beach stretches for almost 7 km, giving you a long run of sand peaks to pick from between the headland and the inlet to the estuary, with an armoured rivermouth roughly in the middle. It breaks over sand and peels both left and right.
When It Works
The beach draws swell from southeast through south to west, with southwest (SW) the best match. It prefers a medium swell carrying a bit of angle, which helps the banks form corners rather than shutting down. Consistency is a real strength here, and it works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft.
Wind and Tide
Look for northeast (NE) offshore wind. The beach works across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a welcoming spot for beginners, and the lineup tends to stay fairly quiet. It is also a good place to meet the local surfers.
Access
A strip of parkland buffers the beach from the city and makes for an easy walk down. For parking you have a car park with free parking, plus paid and roadside options. One thing to keep in mind: water quality near the rivermouth can be dubious, especially after rain.
