Overview
Pescadore is a heavy left-hand reef on the inside of Ponta Negra, throwing full-on sucky barrels right next to a big rock. It breaks over uneven, seriously shallow reef, and it is a dangerous wave strictly for experts who can hold their own in a tight local lineup.
When It Works
The spot draws swell from northwest through northeast, with northwest (NW) swell the best match — a huge, long-period, wrapping northwest swell should light it up. It works from 1.2 m / 4 ft to 3 m / 10 ft. Pescadore breaks less consistently than the surrounding spots, but it is often crowded when it does.
Wind and Tide
Look for northwest (NW) offshore wind. The reef can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an expert-only wave. Expect a busy lineup with a tight local crew, and watch out for urchins and the nasty, shallow reef.
