Overview
Plage des Surfeurs sits in the Anse Bonneville, about 2 km from the fishing port of Tartane, and it's the best known and most consistent spot on the island, even if it often turns messy. This is a flexible bay with something for everyone, from lycra-clad learners to pig-dogging pros, which is why most contests run here or at Base-Pointe. After paddling around a large coral patch, you can surf mellow rights and lefts, with the longer rides coming off the rights. Out on the point, Roukoukou is a sucky, barreling left and right that handles swell but not wind.
When It Works
The waves break over an uneven reef that draws swell from north through east, with northeast swell the best match. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3 m / 10 ft, and as the most consistent spot around, it keeps producing rideable waves when other breaks go flat.
Wind and Tide
Look for south offshore wind to clean it up. The reef can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
The mellow inside wave is well suited to beginners, and a surf school makes good use of it. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's working.

There's a surf school on site, and parking is easy with free roadside spots nearby.
