Playa de Rodo Surf Forecast Guide

Overview

Playa de Rodo is a long golden crescent of sand hemmed in by rocky points at each end, sitting on Galicia's far western tip where the coast is open to every swell that moves through the North Atlantic. It's one of the most consistent waves in the area, with banks and peaks running the full length of the beach and decent rights and lefts breaking over sand. Keep an eye out for rip currents, and know that the paddle out can be a workout when it's pumping, especially when a cleanup set rolls through.

When It Works

Autumn is the season here, with September through November the window to aim for. The beach picks up swell from west to north-northwest (W-NNW) and works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, which covers everything from knee high to well overhead. Even in summer this is a reliable option, and its consistency is a big part of the appeal.

Wind and Tide

Look for a southeast (SE) offshore wind, with a workable wind window from east-southeast to south (ESE-S). Low and mid tide are the times to surf, and a rising tide is generally the better call.

Local Tips

This is an intermediate-friendly beachbreak that suits a range of boards, from shortboards and fish to funboards and longboards. Expect a busy lineup, particularly on summer weekends when locals are joined by surfers from Ferrol and A Coruña, but with peaks spread along the whole beach there are usually enough waves to go around. The atmosphere in the water is somewhat reserved, though largely tolerant.

Access

Getting to the beach is simple.
