Overview
Playa Hermosa - Golfo Nicoya is a cruisey beachbreak that peels into slow, forgiving rollers over sand. It hands up both lefts and rights, and for anyone chasing a bit more punch there's a reefy righthander off the northern point.
When It Works
The break draws swell from south through west-southwest to northwest (S-WSW-NW), with west swell the best match. It's a consistent beachbreak that works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, so there's usually something to ride across a wide band of sizes.
Wind and Tide
Look for a northeast offshore wind to clean things up. A rising tide is the better call; at high tide the waves and the beach can disappear altogether.
Local Tips
This is a beginner's playground, with mellow rollers made for surf-school softtops. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's on, though the vibe stays laid-back.
Access
There's a surf school and surf shop on hand, plus free roadside parking.
