Praia da Cal is a sand-bottomed beachbreak in Torres, tucked just below the tall cliffs south of the lighthouse hill. Those cliffs give it decent shelter from south winds, and the bank peels both left and right. It ranks as one of the most consistent breaks in Torres.
When It Works
The bank draws swell from east through south, with south (S) the best direction. A south swell tends to serve up faster, longer righthanders. Being a consistent break, it holds a wide window and is usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft.
Wind and Tide
Look for northwest (NW) offshore wind. The bank works through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
The sandy setup is approachable enough for beginners. It gets busy, so expect a crowded lineup when it's working.
Access
Facilities include restrooms, showers, camping, a lifeguard, a surf school, and a surf shop. There's a car park with free parking, plus roadside parking nearby.
