Princeton Breakwater is an easily accessible, wedgy, semi-hollow beachbreak that peels right over a mix of boulders and sand. A long jetty shelters it from the huge outside surf and the northwest winds, so it stays rideable when the outside gets rough, and it breaks on just about any swell.
When It Works
The break draws swell from south through west, with a southwest swell the best match. Those wedgy rights are usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, and thanks to the jetty's shelter it's a consistent option that keeps working when nearby spots are maxed out.
Wind and Tide
Look for a northeast offshore wind. It's best at low tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an approachable, beginner-friendly wave, so expect a busy lineup, it's popular with just about everybody in the county. Keep an eye on the sharp inshore rocks.
Access
Getting here is easy. Park for free along the roadside on Highway 1, right in front of the break.
