Overview
Punta Chipehua is a remote right-hand point that peels over a mix of uneven reef and sand. It's a quality wave when a solid south swell arrives, and the point holds its shape on bigger days rather than closing out.
When It Works
The point draws swell from southwest through southeast, with south swell the best match. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3 m / 10 ft and keeps breaking cleanly as the surf gets bigger. Consistency can be hit or miss here, so it pays to time a visit around a solid south swell.
Wind and Tide
Look for west offshore wind. Wind is the real gatekeeper: strong 20 to 30 knot northeast to east trade winds blow through regularly, and the point has no tolerance for them, so you'll want a window when they ease off. It works across low to mid tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers, and you can expect a fairly quiet lineup when it's on.
Access
Reaching the point takes a long walk, with access via San Pedro Huamelula. Huge sand dunes back the beach, said to have been formed by a hurricane. There's camping nearby, along with free roadside parking.
