Overview
Riyue Wan - Camel Left is a left-hand reef that peels over a mix of boulders and sand, set below a cluster of mussel-encrusted rocks in front of the tourist attraction known as the Taiwanese Village. When the sand banks up, it forms Camel Left, a fast racing wall that can throw up barrel sections when big northeast swells wrap into the bay. The rocks are a bit nasty, so it suits intermediate to advanced surfers.
When It Works
The break draws swell from northeast through southeast, with northeast (NE) the direction that lights it up best. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, and it stays reliably consistent, so there's usually something to ride when the swell is in.
Wind and Tide
Look for a northwest (NW) offshore wind to clean it up. It comes to life on low and mid tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an expert's wave given the rocky setup, so it rewards confident surfers. Expect a fairly quiet lineup when it's on.
Access
There's a car park nearby with free parking.
