Overview
Sabón is a summer beachbreak that peels left and right over sand, and it scores as one of the more consistent options around. The massive port construction has cut into its swell exposure, though, and added to the river pollution. Rips run through the lineup, so pick your peak with care.
When It Works
Sabón draws swell from west through north, with northwest (NW) the best direction. It works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, and the right is a real swell sponge, making the most of whatever is on offer. As a summer beachbreak it comes into its own in the warmer months, and it delivers waves with impressive regularity.
Wind and Tide
Look for east (E) wind to groom the waves here, and the right can handle a bit of southwest wind on top of that. The beach breaks through low, mid, and high tide, but it's at its best around low tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a wave for expert surfers. Expect a busy scene when it's on — the beach pulls in surfers and sunbathers from A Coruña — and keep an eye on those rips.
Access
There's a lifeguard on the beach, but with the crowds coming over from A Coruña, parking can be a hassle.
