Overview
Sage-ri is a mellow beach break that peels over sand and suits surfers who are still finding their feet. It serves up both lefts and rights, though it can get overpowered easily once the swell picks up. Keep an eye out for tongues of rock and scraps of reef scattered around the sand. When it isn't cooperating, there are more sandy peaks nearby at Hwasun Beach.
When It Works
The beach draws swell from southwest through southeast, with south swell the best match. It's usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, and it stays moderately consistent.
Wind and Tide
Look for northwest offshore wind to clean up the faces. The beach can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a friendly spot for beginners, and the lineup tends to stay moderately busy when it's working.
Access
There's a lifeguard on hand and a surf school right at the beach. For parking, you'll find a car park with free parking alongside roadside spots.
