Overview
Same (pronounced Sa-may, not the English word) is a sand-bottomed beachbreak that serves up both lefts and rights. It picks up northeast swell better and holds bigger waves than neighbouring Iwaya, and the rocks around the little point can help anchor the sand, though it stays a fairly average beachbreak overall.
When It Works
Same draws swell from west through north to northeast (W-N-NE), with north (N) the best match. It works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft and tends to be moderately consistent, so you will find worthwhile windows without expecting waves every day.
Wind and Tide
Look for southeast (SE) offshore wind. The beach can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an approachable spot that is normally fine for beginners, and you can expect a moderately busy lineup when it works. In summer, keep an eye out for rips and jellyfish.
